Why did you decide to become an SLP? After completing my core classes during my undergraduate studies, I knew I wanted to join a helping profession in the healthcare or education fields. However, I was still unsure which major to declare, so I pursued career counseling at my university. On the assessments I was given, Speech-Language Pathology was my number one match. At the same time, my toddler son was not meeting his communication milestones and was demonstrating early red flags for Autism Spectrum Disorder, so we were beginning the evaluation and early intervention process. As I began to learn more about Speech-Language Pathology, both from personal experience as a parent and through my studies, I completely fell in love with the field and the great impact that it has. I knew that it was the right field for me and that I wanted to help make the same impact on the lives of children and their families!

What is your SLP superpower? Empathy and compassion for the children we serve and their parents – As a parent with two children with disabilities who have needed various rehabilitation services, I understand the many ups and downs each and every day can hold and the wide range of feelings that come up during these journeys. I reflect on my own experiences when my son was initially diagnosed with ASD, especially prior to becoming an SLP, and what support was most helpful, what was not, and how I can strive to best meet the needs of both the children and their caregivers!

What do you like to do for fun? I love spending time with my husband, our two children, and our two cats! I also love reading, learning, playing board and card games, camping, and spending time outdoors!

What do you love about TeamUp Therapy? I am very passionate about parent coaching and working with children in their natural environments. The telehealth service delivery model is an additional plus as it provides flexibility for families who are already juggling so much and is a great option for those who may not have many resources locally.
