Why did you decide to become an SLP?
I was inspired to become a speech-language pathologist by my sister, Anna, who has Down syndrome. Because of my life experience with Anna, I has a passion to help individuals with disabilities find their voice and be a part of providing them the tools they need to be heard. I love finding each child's own unique strengths and abilities and using those to facilitate more effective communication. I also have a desire to support families, and use parent coaching to empower them to embrace their active role on the therapy team!

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
I got the opportunity to job shadow an SLP, and the first client we saw was a precocious and playful little boy. He began to speak to his mama. I saw his face fall and scrunch up with frustration, and then, his mama looked to my mentor with hope and apprehension. That SLP showed excitement to get started and was confident that she'd get him communicating soon. I was HOOKED to realize how huge an impact this profession made in the lives of families!
What is your SLP superpower?
Encouragement! Showing my parents how to facilitate a skill in their child while pointing out the countless ways they are already helping is my passion. I truly LOVE revealing to my kids that they CAN do it! Even if it takes a little while or they do it differently (especially at first), it counts, and they are incredible human beings who I am better for knowing!
What do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy going on trips with my family, watching my kids' sporting events, and doing anything outdoors with them. Gardening, reading and painting are my quiet escapes!

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
I became an SLP because I knew I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. I shadowed a wonderful SLP who has become my mentor along my journey and she showed me how much fun our career can be! Now I get to "play" all day everyday while making a positive impact in other's lives.
What is your SLP superpower?
My SLP superpower is the ability to tailor my therapy approach to each child and family's needs. I am passionate about parent coaching and education to allow for wrap around services. I like my families to know we are a team and we can achieve anything together!

I love to hang out with my husband, children, and friends on the weekends! I love riding around on my golf cart enjoying my little town.
What do you love about TeamUp Therapy?
I love the TeamUp allows for therapy to happen from the "natural" environment within our homes. I think it is so amazing we have the ability to do tele-therapy and can then utilize real life tangible items from everyday routines. It gives us a little "scope" into each families' unique needs and their real life situations outside of a traditional therapy setting.
Areas of interest:
I am passionate about working with patient's and their families in a 1:1 setting. I feel this allows for personalized and productive therapy. I love addressing and working on functional skills that can be carried over to all environments and aspects of life. I love watching my kids grow and achieve their goals!

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
I decided to become an SLP to help others! I remember in high school, an SLP was describing her job, and the extent to which she could help others. I thought it was so neat that she could help others learn how to communicate, swallow, process, etc. I knew right then, that I wanted to become an SLP to help others! What is so neat about our field is the variety of ages and disorders that we can treat! I have treated infants - 90 year olds, and I absolutely LOVE that we can help all ages and populations!
What is your SLP superpower?
My SLP superpower is establishing rapport! I love to build relationships with both clients & families! I have found that working with both clients and parents, the more rapport you develop, the more that kids and families trust you to guide them in the areas of communication and language! Sometimes, you are the only bright light in the child / caregiver's day, and I love being that light for them!

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
I actually didn’t know I wanted to be a SLP until my senior year of college! I was dual majoring in Communication Sciences & Disorders and Health Policy & Administration with every intention of pursuing a master’s degree in business. Luckily, I had the opportunity to volunteer with a program at Penn State called LifeLink PSU—a secondary transitional program that provides college experience for young adults with a variety of disabilities. LifeLink offered me the opportunity to connect with staff who had made a career out of helping others find independence, peers who I connected with because of the similar interests we shared, and students who touched my heart. I decided business could wait and that I could make the biggest direct impact on others if I went a more clinical route. The rest is history!
My previous graduate degree was in educational leadership, and I taught adult GED courses at a community college. One of my students suffered a stroke, and I watched her regain her communication skills over several months as she worked with a wonderful speech-language pathologist. It was so inspirational to me that I decided to go back to school to become an SLP, and it has been the most incredible journey ever since!
What is your SLP superpower?
My SLP superpower is establishing relationships with others! I love making new friends and learning from others.

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
Through volunteering with the Miracle League, an organization for individuals with disabilities, I discovered my passion for working with children and adults who have disabilities. I was inspired to seek a career where I would be able to help make a difference in the lives of those who have disabilities, and then I found the field of speech-language pathology. I chose to become a speech-language pathologist in order to be able to help others learn how to communicate more effectively and functionally. I have experience working with both the pediatric and adult populations, but my passion has always been working with the pediatric population! I love getting to help little ones reach their milestones and making a difference in the lives of children and their families!

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
Both of my parents and aunts had careers in special education and working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, so I "grew up" in this field. After several major changes in college, always within the sciences, speech language pathology was the perfect fit for me. It allowed me to continue with a scientific, clinical career, while serving families and children with exceptional needs.
What is your SLP superpower?
I believe this SLP superpower is something developed through experience with the families I've served--connecting to and encouraging families and caregivers. I try to connect with parents and caregivers, and their children, showing them love and acceptance from the beginning. I take pride in my role in helping families see their child's strengths and how to build on those strengths as their child grows and changes.

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
My brother stuttered when he was younger. I saw that working with individuals who stutter can be incredibly rewarding, as you can help them find their voice and improve their communication skills. My brother's experience peaked my interest and provided insight and motivation to help others facing similar challenges. This gave me a unique perspective and empathy to serve others with communication difficulties. My brother doesn't stutter anymore, and his challenges allowed me to find a career that I love and am thankful for to be a part of every day!
What is your SLP superpower?
My SLP superpower is rapport building. I love working with the family as a whole which significantly enhance the effectiveness of speech language therapy. By involving the entire family, communication challenges can be addressed in a more comprehensive way and each family member can contribute to add support to their child's progress. Educating families about speech and language development can empower them to create supportive environments and reinforce therapy goals at home. By establishing strong relationships, family members can lead to better engagement in therapy and more consistent practice of skills outside of therapy sessions. By focusing on the family unit, a more supportive and effective therapy experience is created that leads to lasting changes in communication skills.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to exercise, dance, spend time with my family and travel.

Why did you decide to become an SLP?
I’ve always had a passion for working with children, and initially, I thought teaching would be the path for me. But during college, I realized I didn’t want to be in a classroom setting. I much preferred working with kids one-on-one or in small groups. That’s when I decided to take an intro to Communication Sciences and Disorders course, and I immediately fell in love with the field. I ended up pursuing it as a minor, and from there, I knew without a doubt that I wanted to go to grad school for speech-language pathology. I started shadowing SLPs, and the rest, as they say, is history!
What is your SLP superpower?
My SLP superpower is building strong, trusting relationships with the families I serve. I believe that establishing rapport and creating a safe, supportive environment is essential for helping both children and their parents or caregivers feel confident and empowered throughout the therapy journey. This allows me to not only meet the child’s communication needs but also support the family in being active participants in the process.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love spending time with family and friends, running, reading and going to the beach (or reading at the beach!)
What do you love about TeamUp Therapy?
What I love most about TeamUp is the emphasis on empowering families, which is one of the core values. This truly resonates with me because I believe collaborating with families and making them active participants in the therapeutic process is essential for a child’s success. I also love the flexibility that TeamUp offers, both for patients and therapists.
